Soybean to Soymilk-Easy Production Steps of Homemade Soy milk


Soybean or soya bean is a species of legume which is mostly related to South Asia. It was first introduced by Chinese farmers near about 1100 BC. After that in gained so much popularity that nowadays every country is harvesting this crop for its capabilities of various usage. In India soybean is used to produce a large amount of edible oil which is also called soybean oil. But we are forgetting the other abilities of soybean like soy milk, tofu, and also soy curd. Not only that, but the waste generated from soybean after milk extraction which is also called okara can also be used to make various products like biscuits, copies, cakes, etc. 

Soya milk:

 As normal milk soya milk is also liquid, white in color, and contains several nutrients that are required for our body. Soybean contains a high amount of protein also preferred by the directors as it contains low calories. It is also excellent for babies children gallery people and pregnant women and also for lactose intolerants. Soy milk is a good source of protein, vitamin A, vitamin B-12, potassium, and isoflavones plus it can be fortified with calcium and vitamin D. It is a good source of polyunsaturated fatty acids, including the good fats and free of cholesterol. 

Soya milk production process:

  • At first soybean seeds are bought from the market. 
  • Then the required amount of soybean is taken in a frying pan and roasted slightly in low flame. This process is done to eliminate the beany flavor in soybean. This process is for them who do not like the beany flavor. 
  • After that water is added which is 10 times the weight. For example, if 200 gram of soybean is taken in the bowl then 2 liters to 2.5 liters of water is added in the bowl. Then it is closed with a lid and kept for at least 8 hours for soaking. 
  • After 8 hours of soaking soybean seeds will become soft and increase in volume. Then we have to scrap out all the peels of soybean seeds gently with our hands and washed many times to make sure that there is no peel of soybean seeds. 
  • After that the soaked soybean seeds are fed in the mixer grinder with water and grounded and yellowish-white foamy milk will be produced with a solid bi-product which is called Okara.
  •  Now a clean hot water sterilized muslin cloth spread over a bowl and the whole mixture sport on the muslin cloth. After pouring, the muslin cloth is bound and squeezed to separate milk from Okara. 
  • After separating the milk from Okara the bowl needs to be put over the flame and heated to maintain the required thickness. During the heating, process foams are scrapped out during a little span of time. After reaching the required consistency the milk is cooled and stored in a glass jar.
